I started painting not long after I left school,
just general subjects but dogs
were included. I had an o-level in art and really enjoyed it.
Taking on a job
as a dental technician I didn't have much time for painting and concentrated
on my dental career as it was fulfilling my artistic needs in a more three
dimensional way with the crowns I was constructing.
At 26 I was headhunted by someone I had known for
some time to join him as a partner in his business. Things went well for
awhile, and I took up cycling as a pastime with a local time trialing club.
While I was out riding with some friends three of us had an accident and I was
rushed to hospital with a fractured skull. The partnership broke up and it
left me not knowing if i would even walk again, let alone work again! I made
it back and went into partnership with my wife who was also a dental
technician. This business went on until I developed neuropathy which is
connected with diabetes and causes pain in the hands and feet.
After giving up dentistry I returned to painting
dogs using oils on card. I have a good friend in a golden cocker spaniel who
sat regularly for me to begin with, and I have painted him quite a few times.
Many friends have asked me to do portraits of
their dogs and I have exhibited paintings in a local events.
I now paint dogs, photographing them first and
prefer to produce head portraits, charging from £60.00 for each painting;
which are unframed.
